Human being has damaged the wild life. People hunt animals in order to get the advantages. They don't pay attention the importance of the conservation. They don't understand that the life of the forest has a relation with the life of the human being. They
cut the trees to get a farming field. However it threatens the environment.
Each government in the world give attention seriously to nature. Singariti National Park in Kilimanjaro valley, Kenya, as wild life conservation. We find a lot of wild animals in it. National park in Ujungkulon, West Java as wild life conservation. These conservation are useful to keep the animals from the extinction due the human.

RAFFLESIA ARNOLDI
The vast archipelago and the great number of island has made Indonesia the home of variety of plant life. The Indonesian flora ranges from the tiny orchid to the giant rafflesia plant. No wonder many botanist are curious to study these plant.
The rafflesia arnoldi is the biggest flower in the world. It is unusual because of its large size. It has a flower almost a metre in diameter and 1.40 metres in height.

OUR FORESTS
Indonesia has some of the richest forest in the world. The total area of forested land is approximately 120 millions hectares.
These forest have existed for millions of years and they have much to after us. They important for their product, such is timber, rattan (= rotan), resin (= damar), etc. They are also important for keeping the soil fertile. The leaves is fertilizer for the soil.

The rafflesia arnoldi is the biggest flower in the world. It is unusual because of its large size. It has a flower almost a metre in diametre and 1.40 metres in height.
"Rafflesia" is drived from the British Governor General, Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles who once governed and built the Botanical Gardens in Bogor. Though it is called Rafflesia after Raffles, the man who discovered the plant was Beccary, an Italian botanist who visited Sumatra in 1928.

Dr. Mohammad Hatta was born in Bukittinggi on 12th August, 1902. While still in Junior High School in Bukittinggi he became interested in politics and joined the League of Young Sumatrans.
He left Bukittinggi to study in Batavia. Then he went to the Netherlands, where he studied economics and gained a doctorate.

In 1930 Hatta returned to Indonesia. He joined a political organization called "Pendidikan Nasional Indonesia". One of its goals was to develop political awareness among the Indonesian people. His activities again led to his arrest. The colonial government exiled him to Boven Digul and later to Banda Neira. Shortly before the Japanese invasion he was brought back to Java.
When the Japanese surrendered in August 1945, Soekarno and Hatta proclaimed Indonesia's independence. Hatta became the first Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia.
In 1956 Hatta Resigned as Vice President, and devoted himself to writing. On 14th March, 1981 Dr. Mohammad Hatta died in Jakarta.
But people will always remember him as a great statesman of Indonesia.

The Borobudur temple, with its seven terraces and its stupas, is the world's largest Buddhist temple. The Sailendra dynasty built Borobudur in the ninth century. OUR FORESTS
Indonesia has some of the richest forestsin the world. The total of forested land is approximately 120 million hectares.
These forests have existed for millions of years and they have much to offer us. They are important for their products, such as timber, rattan (= rotan). resin (= damer) etc. They are also important for keeping the soil fertile. The leaves of the forest trees fall to the ground and become humus.

Indonesia has some of the richest forests in the world. The total are of forested land is approy im ately 120 ntillion hectars.
These forests have existed for million or years and they have much to offer us. They are important for theimproducts, such as timber, rattan (= kotan) resin (= damar) etc. They are also important for keeping the soil fertile. The leaves of the forest trees fall to the ground and become humus. The humus is fertilizer for soil. The forest are also important for preventing soil erosion and floods. The roots of the trees prevent the soil from being washed away by the rain.
Some years ago the forests in Indonesia looked from the air like an unbroken carpet of green. Today there are a lot of bare patches (= bidang tanah) where trees have been cut down and cleared. The trees have been cut down for timber. Forests are cleared for farms, mines and settlements. In some areas the destruction is continuing at a very rapid rate. If we do not stop this, our forests will be gone by the end of this century.
Our goverment realizes this and has taken some steps to prevent the destruction. Some regulations have been isued (dikeluarkan) to protect to forests. In addition, reforestation project are being carried out. The project are as important as other big development projects.
